Eric Trimble - Villains & More Villains FEATURED artist

www.pinkghost.net

Gage Creed & Winston Churchill by Eric Trimble

Mini Bio: (Eric Trimble Site) I was born on November 13, 1976 in Eastern Kentucky. In 1995 I attended college at Morehead State University. There I received a degree in Graphic Communications. In 1999, I moved to Lexington, Kentucky and started work for a civil engineering firm doing drafting, 3D modeling, graphic design and other ancillaries.

I’m a self taught Pen & Ink artist who communicates through cross-hatched images. My work didn’t really start to evolve until 2 ½ years ago when my daughter was born. It was then that I sat down at 10 o’clock at night with a drink in one hand and a pen in the other and started venting. My daughter has had a rough start in life dealing with multiple complications. My work focuses on how beautiful and comical the anomalies of this world really are. My daughter taught me not to ignore the “Big Pink Elephant” in the room, but instead, to embrace and become totally obsessed with it.

My creations escape conventional illustration, exposing images the conscience tries to suppress. It holds the innocence of fairy tales with a sardonic undertone that pose strange questions. My artwork has no specific emotional direction or intent. I don’t create art for the sake of sales or try to make it more commercially palatable. I draw what I want at that given moment whether it will be accepted or not. I use the simplest form of art - a line, and hatch and cross hatch tediously--until I get the desired tone or texture. Each mundane line is a piece of my life. I compulsively strike black marks, almost as remission of sins.

Eric's piece will be at pinkghost's Villains & More Villains Art Show from June 21 till July 21, 2008. Don't miss an opportunity to see his work in person.

Max Kauffman - Villains & More Villains FEATURED artist

www.pinkghost.net

en sabah nur by Max Kauffman

Mini Bio: (www.kauffmanartistry.com) I hail from a place called the middle. I was born in Chicago, and grew up in South Bend, IN. There was not alot to do there, so I would comb the countryside by day, and ride the streets at night. This back and forth would be a starting point for my creative efforts. I left to attend school at ASU, and recieved my degree in fine arts with a specialization in ceramics and a minor in Anthropology. This was another piece of the puzzle in my currrent art. I now reside in Denver, which is spectacular.

Color, line, and texture are the building blocks to my work. Color always begins every piece; line and texture fall in order after. There is a duality present in the work- chaos and cleanliness merging, thought-out meticulous line work paired with random stream of consciousness flow, and a stark reality with tinges of a dreamtime within (or vice versa).

The themes I work in also focus on duality; both sides of an idea, an argument, a struggle. Struggles are the most common; good vs. evil, man vs. machine, nature vs. mankind. I imagine the future in two ways; as a bleak shell devoid of life, or as a simpler Utopian affair where man and nature coexist.
Inspiration comes from a wide variety of media and cultures. Music is a huge influence, especially the nature of a good live show and its spontaneity. Changes occurring throughout a song - the flow, segue, the breakdown are all very important in the creation of my art. Video games from the late 80’s and early 90’s, comic books and cartoon shows also carry weight and imagery.

From art itself, the stylized renderings and hieroglyphs of ancient cultures such as the Mayans and the Egyptians, the patterning and skewed perception of Escher, and the fusion of nature and machine by artists like Geiger affect my techniques. There is a narration to each piece that is a nod to my love for history, and to what could be. I love to imagine the past's idea of the future; what could be and never was. Slowly I am realizing that most of the species on this earth are not that different, minus certain degrees of specialized adaptation and traits.
